Is AT&T U-verse Doomed? (via VOIP & Gadgets Blog)

Interesting blog post from Tom Keating about the architectural issues that ATT's U-verse is facing, both with its physical architecture (needing neighborhood DSLAM boxes, which require permissions from the municipalities) and with its network architecture (based on proprietary MSFT set top boxes as opposed to any open standards). Those are substantial issues, but if they can be solved, U-verse sounds much more likely to generate profits than the Verizon FTTH trillion dollar extravaganza (I guess trillion is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture).
